History

The story of a true pioneer in automotive electrics.

1926   Ernst Hedinger passed his apprenticeship in Zofingen and Zürich to become an automotive electrician, a profession which was, at those times, a rather rare occupation. During the following twenty years the young expert improved his knowledge and skills in electro-mechanics and electronics which was the foundation of todays success. In Schlieren, nearby Zürich E. Hedinger opened his first workshop of 90 m2 space. Increasing demand was requiring more hands and soon there was work for three people. During the following five years E. Hedinger extended his service centre. Hedinger test benches and testing equipment were built in Schlieren for the first time and are today well known and used all over the country.

Very soon Swissair entrusted the company E. Hedinger with subsidiary revision of electromechanical aircraft components. Those who know the rigid instructions about maintenance and service of airliners can judge the abilities of the then still very young company. It was only a short period until aircraft servicing companies and Aeroclubs were also using the services of Ernst Hedinger. As it was not possible to enlarge activities in Schlieren, Ernst Hedinger, after thorough studies, decided to move his operations to Wattwil in the canton of St.Gallen.
1954   was the new start on a area of 250 m2. In addition to the existing fields of activities an own engine winding department was opened. Meanwhile the company was operating of 800 m2 area with 20 employees.
1965 the servicing of the Eberspächer vehicle heating for the eastern part of Switzerland was added. During Winter 1967/68 it was decided, to build new premises into which the company moved in December 1969. Totally an area of 1700 m2 was built in which all special departments were accommodated.
1971 E. Hedinger was accepted as an official Maintenance Base by the FOCA Federal Office of Civil Aviation.
Seven years later the company became an official service organisation for Bosch vehicle electrics.
1981 Ernst Hedinger transformed the company into a Limited Company owned by his family. Based on Hedingers experience gained in the aircraft industry, FAA was granting to the company the certificate as an official Maintenance Base for electromechanical appliances for civil aviation. After 60 years of professional life E. Hedinger's responsibility for the company passed over to his son, Ernst Hedinger jr. Thanks to his apprenticeship as electro-mechanic and his studies of industrial economy which he finished with the Dimploma Bachelor of Business Administration, continuation of the company is secured.
1987 E. Hedinger Ltd. became an official Lear Siegler Maintenance Base. Two years later 96% of shares of E. Hedinger Ltd. were bought by E. Hedinger jr.
1992 Hedinger Aircraft Components Ltd. was founded (60% Ernst Hedinger jr., 40% Maja Hedinger) and operational activities were divided into.

• E. Hedinger Ltd. vehicle electrics, electro-mechanics, winding department
• Hedinger Aircraft Components Ltd. Electro-mechanical aircraft components
1993 Hedinger AG received the concession as JAA Base, ended the contract with Lucas/Lear Siegler and strengthened activities with APC and Auxilec.
